چکیده

The production and productivity of small ruminant in humid West Africa is being limited by feed constraints, which are largely due to non-strategic utilization combination available resources develop an efficient feeding system, rather than absolute non availability. Farmers under semi-intensive system commonly offer supplements their animals the morning before grazing fibrous grasses all day. However, results rumen degradability studies suggested that this should be opposite. This study was designed investigate effect changing sequence interval concentrate supplement (CS) roughage on performance Yankasa weaner rams. A 90-day trial conducted using twenty eight 5-6 months old rams with average body weight 14.96 ± 1.10 kg. were randomly assigned four treatments (CB1: CS fed 1 h prior grass hay (GH); CB2: 2h GH; GB1: GH CS; GB2: 2 CS) a 2x2 factorial arrangement randomized complete block design (RCBD). woolly finger (Digitaria smutsii Stent) at rate 2.4% 1.6% weight, respectively, offered water ad libitum. Blood collection done weeks pre- 4 post- second feeding. Rumen fluid collected 3 post-second during last week trial. Parameters measured include dry matter intake (DMI), total change, Average daily gains (ADG), Total volatile fatty acids (VFAs), ruminal pH values, creatinine levels. DMI significantly (P < 0.05) affected change GB2 CB2 0.01) higher CB1 GB1 ADG among interval. VFAs values post-feeding (P< GH. Pre-feeding blood levels post-feeding, also CS. It concluded that, even though, growth not markedly as much GH, had better efficiency.

Effect of thymol and carvacrol on nutrient digestibility in rams fed high or low concentrate diets

Published data on the effects of essential oils (EO) on in vivo nutrient digestibility in sheep are contradictory. In 2 experiments, the effect of thymol and carvacrol on nutrient digestibility was studied in sheep fed with high (70%) or low (52%) concentrate diets, using incomplete Latin Square designs. The essential oils were mixed with the concentrate portion of the diet at the rate of 0.0, ...

Energy efficiency of growing ram lambs fed concentrate-based diets with different roughage sources.

Poor-quality roughages are widely used as fiber sources in concentrate-based diets for ruminants. Because roughage quality is associated with the efficiency of energy use in forage-based diets, the objective of this study was to determine whether differing the roughage source in concentrate-based diets could change the energy requirements of growing lambs. Eighty-four 1/2 Dorper × 1/2 Santa Inê...

Influence of roughage and grain processing in high-concentrate diets on the performance of long-fed Holstein steers.

The effects of roughage source and timing of inclusion in high-concentrate diets on feedlot performance were evaluated in each of 2 yr with 144 and 120 long-fed Holstein steers, respectively. Roughage, when included in the diet, was delivered in a built-in-roughage (BIR) pellet supplying 15 and 6% roughage (percentage of DM) or hay crop silage (HCS) supplying 7 and 10% roughage (percentage of D...
